Re: New Sobriety (Relationships)

Yes, I heard from several people that a serious relationship in your
first year is not recommended. I'm thinking your sponsor is going on
what they know to be best for you, I can tell you that my sponsor said
no to just about everything until I went through all the steps with
her. This was the best decision I made, and I did it because I wanted
to start the road to recovery, not get something in return. My
sponsor had veto power my first year or sobriety, but oddly enough she
objected little to my thoughts/decisions after i did the steps with
her.
Friendships are an integral part of my recovery, and it doesn't matter
to me what gender they are...but I did have to be very careful b/c I
was particularly suseptible the first year. People assume that you
aren't clear until your first year, maybe they are right...I know now,
with 2+ years, that I am glad I was careful that first year.
I hope this helps,
Vanessa
